"It's like riding a bike"

There’s so much stuff that every one of us accomplishes every single day that doesn’t make it to the To-Do list-  Stuff we take for granted.  For parents out there- do you remember the excitement the first time your child stood up, or took a few wobbly steps?  Or when they first learned to ride on a two-wheeled bicycle?  Or when they started to talk? Or read?  Or get dressed on their own?  We all learned how to do these things too!  The saying “It’s like riding a bike…” gives voice to it.  There are things we’ve learned to do so well that we don’t even have to think about- there’s no conscious effort whatsoever.

Guess what- if you’re reading this post, YOU CAN READ!  That’s amazing!  So much time and effort went into learning this skill, and you still remember how to do it!  In fact, you know how to do it so well you probably didn’t even realize it!  You know how to use a computer keyboard?  And mouse?  That’s awesome!  Do you bathe and get dressed on your own?  Feed yourself?  You’ve learned these skills so well, you don’t even need to think about it!

One of the neatest things about mindfulness is that it can help us recognize and appreciate things that are already right here, that take no effort whatsoever!  I created a short guided meditation that emphasizes this aspect of mindfulness!  I hope you like it!
