Mindfulness -Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course

MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) was developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1979. Since then, many thousands of participants in MBSR courses have reported significant improvement with conditions such as:

  • Stress
  • Chronic pain or illness
  • Depression
  • Inappropriate expressions of anger
  • High blood pressure
  • Sleep disruption
  • Anxiety and Panic
  • Chronic fear or phobias
  • Concentration or attention problems

Course Format

The course schedule consists of eight weekly Wednesday evening classes (6pm-8:30pm) and one day-long (9am-3pm) class retreat on a Saturday. The course is practical and participatory, and involves the following:

  • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
  • Instruction and practice of gentle stretching and mindful yoga
  • Group dialogue and discussions aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life
  • Individually tailored instruction
  • Daily home assignments
  • Two home practice CDs
  • Readings, handouts, and other materials to support the practice of mindfulness

Tuition:

Tuition for the course is based on estimated income (honor system) using a sliding scale. Please select your household income during the online registration process to pay for the course.
